How to Fix a Leaky Window without Replacing It!

If you feel a draft or air around your window, you are likely to have a leak.  When a window has a leak, air and/or moisture can get through the cracks and enter the home.

Not only can a leaky window make living conditions less comfortable, but it can also increase the cost of the monthly electric bill, too.

If water enters the home because of a leaky window, it can possibly cause water damage, which may lead to a hefty repair bill.

If you do not want to replace your leaky window, then you can try to repair the leak yourself.  You may be able to do so, by placing new caulk over the gap in the window or removing the old caulk and replacing it with new caulk around the window.  Gaps around windows that are 1/4″ or smaller are easily able to be fixed.

Re-caulking around windows is inexpensive and easy to do.  Once you have the caulk in the caulk gun, you can squeeze the trigger to apply it over the gap.

Position the tip of the tube against a gap around the edge of the window that is less than 1/4 inch wide. Squeeze the trigger to apply caulk over the gap and fill in until there are no more gaps.  Also, you can spray expandable foam right into the gaps that may be too big to fill with caulk.
